Manchester United have agreed a stunning £80 million deal to sign Lazio midfielder
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports.
After a breakthrough in talks this week with the Serie A side, Jose Mourinho is expected to conclude the signing of the 23-year-old imminently.
According to the Sunday Sun , the Red Devils were reluctant to pay the eye-watering sum for the Serbia international, but have conceded they must break the bank in order to seal the deal.
With Michael Carrick retiring at the end of the season and the future of Marouane Fellaini up in the air , the Portuguese boss was keen to quickly add reinforcements to central midfield.
It is believed he wants to pair the midfield enforced alongside fellow countryman Nemanja Matic to bolster the centre of the park for United.
He has enjoyed three stunning seasons at Lazio after joining from Belgian side Genk – with his form leading to Real Madrid also tracking his progress.
Last month, it seemed Juventus had stolen a march on some of Europe’s biggest clubs to sign Milinkovic-Savis, but the deal to take him to United seems as good as done.
