‘House Of Cards’ And ‘The Wire’ Star Reg E. Cathey Dies At 59 The actor lost his battle with cancer.

The world just lost another iconic figure in Hollywood as Reginald E. Cathey, who touched hearts with his performances in House of Cards and The Wire, has died. He was 59.

Cathey, known for his signature baritone voice, got his start in acting in the television movie A Doctor’s Story. He, later on, became a household name after playing Norman Wilson in seasons four and five of The Wire as well as notable roles in Grimm, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Outcast, and the Netflix original series House of Cards.

His work in House of Cards earned him an Emmy award for outstanding guest actor in a drama series in 2015.

Netflix released a statement addressing Cathey’s untimely death.

“We are heartbroken by the passing of our friend and House of Cards colleague Reg E. Cathey,” it reads. “Reg was the kindest man, the most giving actor, a true gentleman. Our sympathy goes to his family.”

The Wire creator, David Simon, who was one of Cathey’s closest friends — he’s the only actor Simon hired to work on all of his TV projects — remembered him in Twitter post:

We send our heartfelt condolences to Cathey’s family, friends and fans during this time. May he rest in peace.
